Into the modern age

IT’S great news that Coldwell Street in Linthwaite is to get an upgrade. We finally get a street for modern life and not for the era of the horse and cart.

I can speak for the all the street that we will all look forward to seeing the council’s men on Monday.

It has taken 20 years to get to this stage with the help of a number of Examiner articles, lobbying of politicians and council officers, even a mention – in 1990 – in the House of Commons.

Can I say thank you to every one for their help in achieving this, especially Graham Mallory, the council officer who made it possible for upgrading the street, but also the councillors of the ward of Colne Valley who been fighting for this for many years – Clrs Nicola Turner, Margaret Fearnley and David Ridgway.

Also thanks to the Examiner for the excellent story written by Emma Davison which I believe helped this issue to a successful outcome. Thanks too to BBC North and the local MP Jason McCartney.

I think it is understandable that I and the rest of the residents of Coldwell Street will feel apprehensive until we see the first workmen arrive on our little street to start the work.

I think when the work is completed it will improve the lives of the residents and allow us to have a street to be proud of.
