THE last five years have seen the Friends of Marsden Park working alongside Kirklees Council on a programme of regeneration leading up to the centenary which is being celebrated in July.
Many changes and improvements have already been made and we always try to involve the wider community and the Junior Friends of Marsden Park in our work.
The land on which the park was built was given by local mill owners at the time.
These were J E Crowther, E J Bruce, Samuel Firth and A Robinson
We have been in touch with the Crowther family but does anyone know if any descendants of the other gentlemen are still alive and contactable.
We would love to invite them to the Centenary Gala which is taking place on Sunday, July 15 from 11am to 5pm with a short informal presentation at 2pm.
This special day will include Marsden Silver Prize Band/Concert Brass/Junior Band, children’s entertainer, belly dancers, Bernadette Heys Dancing School, Bouncy castle, craft stalls, face painter, ice cream, refreshments, bowling competition and much much more.
There will also be a booklet on sale showcasing the very interesting history of Marsden Park with lots of old and new photographs.
We would love to see you all there and if anyone can help with descendants of the mill owners families, please contact me on 01484 843048.
