A 16-PIECE band, a disco, food and friendship.

It sounds just the kind of event that Andrew Spencer would have loved.

And that’s one of the reasons why there will be an air of celebration about a ball which will be held at the end of this month at the Cedar Court at Ainley Top in Huddersfield.

The ball on January 29 aims to raise money for the Andrew Spencer Memorial Trust.

The trust is named after Andrew, a much-loved member of musical theatre circles in Huddersfield who died 18 months ago at the tragically young age of 33.

After a successful stint as a professional dancer, Andrew had returned home to live in Waterloo with his parents, Ray and Lesley.

Back in Huddersfield he quickly found himself once more at the centre of many musical theatre productions in the town and at the heart of a circle of young performers who shared his sense of fun and his enthusiasm for the stage.

His death devastated family and friends who quickly got together to set up a fund which they hoped would celebrate his life by helping others.

The emphasis of the trust’s work is on local groups within the community that are involved in the arts and sports activities to which Andrew was devoted.

For, in addition to being a big talent on stage, Andrew had proved himself no slouch on the rugby field too.

The trust was launched at a similar ball last year and has already inspired a number of fundraising events from concerts to long distance walks.

The Cedar Court ball will bring together many of those who worked alongside Andrew on stage.

There will be dancing to a big band, two fun casino tables plus a raffle.

The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £25.
