A host of free art workshops for children are on offer for half term by artists from the Creative Arts Hub in Mirfield.

The sessions are aimed at children from five to 19, with some sessions taking place at Batley Art Gallery.

Local artists Karen Stansfield and Damian Clark are running the Arts Skills Academy from Monday, February 16, until Thursday, February 19. Two sessions for younger children – aged eight to 12 – will take place at the Hub’s HQ in Mirfield, while older children – aged from 13 to 19 – will meet at the Batley art gallery.

The arts skills on offer include Pointillism, where pictures are built up from dots of colour in the style of French impressionist Seurat, and abstract collage and painting.

While the classes are free places should be booked through www.creativeartshub.org.uk

The holiday sessions are in addition to the Hub’s regular arts activities for youngsters. Artists run weekly Saturday workshops for young children and a Thursday evening advanced class for 10 to 15 year-olds. Following recent funding from Kirklees Arts in the Neighbourhood the Hub is now trialling Saturday afternoon arts workshops at Batley Art Gallery. These cost £5.50 per child, per session.
