There's something for everyone to try their hand at in the world of amateur theatre.

Take a look at the cast of any show and you will see people of all ages and backgrounds, many of them doing quite different jobs.

It’s that diversity which brings together the wide range of skills needed to help societies such as Brighouse Theatre Productions put on shows.

Its latest, Beauty and the Beast will be staged at Brighouse Civic Hall from January 23 – 26.

John Murphy, to be seen at Czerwiks specialist wine and cheese shop in Brighouse by day, makes another welcome appearance, taking on the role of Jacques.

Robert Davison, Property Manager for West Yorkshire Fire Service for 22 years, returns too to play the cameo role as the eccentric Monsieur Le Fou.

Paul Tankard, a freelance project manager and treasurer of the theatre is from Clifton and will play Alphonse, father of the principal girl Belle, who is played by Emma Newsome.

“It’s in my best interest as treasurer for this panto to be a success!” says Paul.

And he’s doing his best to make sure it is, appearing on stage alongside his real-life daughters Sophie and Charlotte who are both in the cast.

A newcomer this year is Lauren Haworth who plays Belladonna the bad witch. It will be the first stage performance for Lauren who is a children’s physiotherapist for those with complex disabilities.
