Here's where you can learn to dance Strictly Come Dancing-style in Huddersfield

Annual surge in people taking up ballroom and Latin dancing as smash BBC show hits screens

BBC smash Strictly Come Dancing returns at 7pm tonight (Friday) and it's time to haul yourself off the couch and dust down those dancing shoes.

There are plenty of places in Huddersfield to learn the kind of dances you see on the show, be it ballroom, Latin or moves from the musicals.

And there are classes for everyone from novice to expert and children to pensioners.

Tristan Dance Studios on Meltham Road, Lockwood, runs six-week ballroom and Latin beginner courses with the next one starting on Monday 11 September (7pm). It costs £70 a couple.

The school also offers:

- Ballroom and Latin dancing for under-5s on Mondays (6pm) for £3

- Intermediate ballroom and Latin lessons on Mondays (8pm) and Tuesdays (8.30pm)

- Adult ballroom and Latin classes on Tuesdays (10am) and Thursdays (12pm) for £4

- Adult beginners salsa class on Thursdays (7.15pm) for £5

- Advanced ballroom and Latin classes on Thursdays (8pm) for £6

Glee’s Dance Studio, Shelley, has a six-week programme 'Sensual Salsa' course which begin on today (September 9) at 7.30pm.

There are also various ballroom and salsa classes for novice, intermediate and advanced dancers at various times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

There are also various children's ballroom and Latin classes on Saturdays.

HD1 Dance, St John’s Road, Huddersfield, has weekly adult salsa classes on Mondays (7.30pm) and Tuesdays (8pm) plus adult tango classes on Tuesdays (7.15pm) and Wednesdays (7pm).

There's also a ballroom class on Wednesdays (8pm).

This year's Strictly features ballroom dancer and 'Queen of Latin' Shirley Ballas who replaces Len Goodman.

She will join Darcey Bussell, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli on the judges panel.

Contestants include singer Alexandra Burke, Eastenders actor Davood Ghadami, comedian Susan Calman and author and priest Rev Richard Coles.

There will be a special tribute to the show's late presenter Bruce Forsyth.
