There's no reason for arty youngsters to be bored during the school holidays as a number of the area’s museums and art venues are running workshops and craft activities for school age children. Many are free or low cost.

Huddersfield Art Gallery, for example, is running a series of Drop-In Family Art Days, at which artists will lead art and craft sessions for parents and children.

The sessions are free and will be taking place on July 28, August 11 and 25, from 1pm to 3pm. No booking is needed.

Dewsbury Museum is having a series of ‘I do like to be beside the seaside’ events, which are also free and suitable for all ages. The art and craft workshops, themed around the seaside, are on July 30, August 6,13 and 20 from noon until 4pm.

At the Gothic Bagshaw Museum near Batley, worth a visit in itself, there will be weekly craft activities based around the theme of Victorian Fancies - making and decorating a photo album, for example. The sessions are on July 28, August 4, 11 and 18, from noon until 4pm.

There is a small charge of £1 per child for materials and the events are suitable for the over fives. Booking is not necessary.

The Creative Arts Hub in Mirfield, which runs year-long activities for children, is hosting a number of Holiday Artdays, on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the holidays, until August 28. They are aimed at five to 10 year-olds and are all-day sessions, from 10am to 3pm.

The cost is £15 per child. Further details can be found on www.creativeartshub.org.uk/events
