Congratulations to the prizewinning artists at Holmfirth Artweek’s exhibition in the Civic Hall.

The Artweek Prize for best picture went to Joseph O’Reilly for his Mixed Bouquet; the Florence Parker Memorial Prize for best newcomer was awarded to Margaret Hutton for Pennine Summer II; and the John Shaw Memorial Prize for 3D work went to John Steve Ellis for his Large Jug.

The artists were selected from among the 400 plus showing at what has become one of the country’s largest community art events.

This year’s Artweek, the 48th, ends tomorrow, so it really is the last chance to snap up original art or visit one of the 23 fringe attractions in the Holme Valley.

It’s also the final opportunity to see a show of paintings by the Artweek featured artist Philip Hill, a Yorkshireman whose watercolours are inspired by the Northern landscape.

The cultural event began as a fund-raiser for charity and this year it is hoped to match last year’s £36,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Details of fringe events are available at www.holmfirthartweek.org

Entry to the main exhibition tomorrow is £2 – all of which goes to Macmillan – and doors are open from 10am until 5pm.
