A short film showcasing the success of this year’s Huddersfield Literature Festival (HLF2014) will be premiered tomorrow evening during the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France.

The film was commissioned to showcase the wide variety of events that took place during the festival and will be shown for the first time on the big screens in St George’s Square in Huddersfield town centre around 6pm on Saturday as part of the ‘Family Time’ slot which runs from 5-7pm, and also in Holmfirth.

Running at around six and a half minutes, the film shows key moments from the festival, an annual event held in various locations across Huddersfield every March.

These include an In Conversation event with broadcaster and writer Kate Adie which attracted an audience of around 550 people to Huddersfield Town Hall and a talk by internationally-known Huddersfield author Joanne Harris.

It also has footage from the Huddersfield Manga Con, held at the University of Huddersfield, which attracted around 1,000 people and was a big draw for the younger generation. Many were dressed as their favourite characters.

Other HLF2014 scenes are from the lively festival launch party with musician and poet Jah Wobble; the festival’s first Literary Afternoon Tea held at Fixby Hall with authors David Barnett and Marina Lewycka and the first ever Polari Up North, based on the award-winning LGBT London literary salon, Polari.

Finally, the area’s diversity was celebrated with the Annapurna Indian Dance company presenting their music and storytelling event ‘Tales of Mystic India’ with local storyteller Ian Clayton.
