A unique musical experience is on offer to jazz lovers – the chance to hear the premiere of a work inspired by and written in the Dean Clough Mills business and arts centre, Halifax.

Leading UK musicians pianist Kit Downes and cellist Lucy Railton are to stage a four-day residency at the mill, during which time they will compose a suite of music influenced by the history, aesthetics and acoustics of what was once the world’s largest carpet manufacturing site.

Kit has played at Dean Clough’s International Jazz season on several occasions, latterly with Lucy, and it was this that led to the suggestion of a residency.

They will work together on the Crossley Gallery’s Fazioli grand piano.

The resulting composition will be performed and recorded on Friday, March 13, at 8pm in the gallery.

Tickets are £15 and £20, with a free download of the music available to those who book in advance.
