It will be the last concert at Huddersfield Town Hall before the historic venue closes for essential roof repairs. That’s why Honley Ladies Choir, Gledholt Male Voice Choir and Huddersfield Choral Society Junior Choirs have named their mass voices event Last Night At The Hall.

On, Saturday, March 5, the concert will bring together some of the area’s finest singers with a lively programme that Honley Ladies’ member Lynn Brooks says “will do serious damage to the town hall roof - it will really need some repairs afterwards.”

The aim is to have something for all ages and the choirs will be singing highlights from Walt Disney’s blockbuster movie Frozen as well as a medley from the popular musical Les Miserables. The concert will raise funds for the Mayor of Kirklees’ chosen charity, Diabetes UK.

As Lynn explained: “We are trying to give the youth choirs an opportunity - it’s a big deal appearing on the stage of the town hall for the *youngsters - and we have tried to choose music that appeals to everybody and gives each choir an opportunity to shine and show what they can do.”

Also included in the programme will be the song Rumours from the show Glee and the finale will be an uplifting mass voice rendition by all three choirs of Do You Hear The People Sing? from Les Miserables.

“There will also be a few surprises in store,” says Lynn.

However, for a taste of what’s on offer, the choirs have prepared a virtual taster and can be heard singing One Moment in Time on a video, which was created by editing together separate recordings of each choir in different locations around Huddersfield. (Visit our website to listen).

The concert has been arranged by Emily Reaves, musical director of Honley Ladies, and Susan Wilkinson, musical director of Huddersfield Choral Society junior choirs, and will be compered by Liz Green and Tim Crowther from Radio Leeds. The accompanist is Jane Robertson, who is also accompanist for the society’s junior choirs.

Tickets are £12.50 and £14.50 from tickets.kirklees.gov.uk or 01484 223200.
