There’s a chance to rediscover Huddersfield’s hidden cultural wealth this Sunday.

The first of a 2015 programme of guided walks around the town centre will highlight the often-overlooked sculpture and other public art treasures.

Led by Chris Marsden, chairman of Huddersfield Civic Society, the walk will begin at 2pm from the Harold Wilson statue in St. George’s Square and last around 90 minutes.

It will take in a number of features of national importance, including the world’s largest ceramic panels on the side wall of the Queensgate Market Hall, the stone figures outside the Library and the superbly-carved figures on Kirkgate Buildings, Lloyds Bank and Britannia Buildings.

Chris will reveal the background and artists responsible for the works as well as the stories behind various mosaics, including ‘Systematic Sequence in Line and Shade’ and ‘Development of the Woollen Industry.’

In the 1960s a new material called Exsilite was used for many murals across the country, and Huddersfield has the only remaining one. Walkers who take part on Sunday will get the chance to find out where it is.

This walk is one of 14 organised by the Discover Huddersfield Partnership. Get details from local libraries or click here.

Cost is £3 per person, no booking necessary.
