Songwriter Roger Davies and friends The Durbervilles have recorded a special song to mark this summer’s Tour De France in Yorkshire.

Roger, pictured above, said the single, ‘The Grand Depart’, captured the sense of excitement and anticipation which is already surrounding the event.

“It’s not every day that the Tour de France passes through your own backyard,” he said, “so I wanted to make a positive contribution in the form of this celebratory song. It’s another example of how I like to write in a straight-forward, no-nonsense style that anyone can understand.”

Lyrics from the track include:

Well there’s a word on the street, a rumour going round, there’ll be 10,000 bicycles racing through town in the summertime, towards the end of t’ first week in July.

Think of the thrill of the chase, the hum of the wheels, with the wind in their faces they’ll know how it feels to be rolling free.

Well it surely will be something to see.

I never thought they’d come through my hometown with the whole world watching as their wheels go round.

I never dreamed I’d ever live to see the day that we’d make history.

All proceeds from the single will raise cash for The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice. Copies of the limited edition CD single are available now from all 10 of the hospice’s high street shops for just £2.

Roger’s next two performances are at the Square Chapel Arts Centre, Halifax, on Saturday, March 29 and at Durker Roods Hotel, Meltham, on Friday, April 4.
