Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir is to stage a special concert for its patrons.

The choir has once again been successful in this year’s choral competition season.

At the Eskdale Festival of Arts National Choir Day competition held in the Whitby Pavilion in April, Skelmanthorpe sang in three different classes and came first in the Male Voice Choir section, beating both local and national choirs.

Success came again in May in the Wharfedale Competition at Ilkley, gaining another first place in the Male Voice Choir section.

John Hampson from the choir said: “We are extremely appreciative of the support given to us by our patrons at concerts. This gives encouragement to our singers, musical directors and accompanists.

“Each year, in appreciation of this support, we perform a concert, for which each patron receives complimentary tickets. Our guest performers will be Miscellany.

This year’s concert will be on Saturday, July 26 at St Aidan’s Church, Radcliffe Street, Skelmanthorpe, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at £8 each from Richard Oldroyd 07926 632682 or on the door.

Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir regularly performs in concert, often in partnership with local well-known brass bands, to help raise funds for local and national hospices and charities.

There are now nearly 60 singers on its books as a result of a continuing recruitment campaign.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings, alternating between Skelmanthorpe and Wakefield.

New members and patrons are always welcome.
