Songbird is the story of the legendary singer Eva Cassidy, whose untimely death at just 33 robbed the music world of one of its greatest performers.

The show, which charts her life from humble beginnings to her fame with Fields of Gold and Over the Rainbow, is currently on a nationwide tour and will be calling in at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax on March 12.

Eva Cassidy was a vocalist and guitarist who interpreted melodies from a wide variety of musical backgrounds – jazz, blues, soul, gospel, folk, country and pop – and gave all her songs a raw emotion and purity.

Songbird – The Music of Eva Cassidy stars former Hollyoaks actress Sarah-Jane Buckley, who has played Eva’s songs to critical acclaim.

She says: “When I first heard Eva on Terry Wogan’s radio show her voice stopped me in my tracks. Her vocal range and emotional effect was spellbinding and, like the rest of the country, I was hooked.”

She has spent years perfecting the ‘Eva’ sound and is accompanied on tour by a live band.
