Mirfield's Creative Arts Hub has a packed summer of creativity in store for young artists and art lovers alike.

Two exhibitions showcasing contemporary art will take the gallery up to September.

Off the Rails from the Art Station collective is an exhibition featuring a diverse range of work from six Kirklees-based artists and runs until July 25. Artists Dan Booth, Andrew Warburton, Beverley Addy, Jane Galvin and Kevin Threlfall join Creative Arts Hub Director Mark Milnes as the Art Station collective – a group responsible for the co-ordination and display of exhibitions at Huddersfield railway station over the past two years.

The Off the Rails exhibition is a rare foray into exhibiting together outside the station environment and presents a range of work including painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture.

A solo exhibition of paintings by Batley artist Gary Makin will be on display throughout August.

Gary creates monochromatic images which use a limited palette to stunning effect. Some of his paintings feature portraits including well-known jazz musicians. In others he has created a series of photorealistic animal images. For the first time Gary will bring another strand of more personal, reflective work which explores the artist’s emotional journey.

Every Wednesday and Friday during the holidays the Hub will run its artdays for budding artists from 10am to 3pm enabling youngsters to try out a varied range of techniques and develop their skills while creating their own mini-masterpieces. These will run from July 22 to August 28.

They are aimed at five to 10-year-olds and each session will explore a different artistic technique or theme. The sessions will build on the popular Saturday art clubs that the Hub runs and the longer running time will allow the youngsters to focus on creating larger pieces or exploring the session theme more deeply.

The all day sessions run from 10am to 3pm and cost £15 per child per day. They will need to bring their own packed lunch. Booking is through the events page on the Hub’s website, www.creativeartshub.org.uk .

The Hub is open Wednesday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 3pm. Contact info@creativeartshub.org.uk or 01924 492775 for further details – or check the Hub’s facebook page, creativeartshubmirfield.
