THEY are young, talented and about to head off on a UK tour in great company.

Singer Ruby Wood and guitarist Noah Burton, both already well-known in the area for their musical gifts, are joining Variety Lives! which will see them lining up alongside performers such as Sandi Toksvig, Andy Hamilton and Arthur Smith as well as singers Ian Shaw and Carol Grimes.

Ruby and Noah first started working together six years ago when they were students at Huddersfield New College.

They were spotted at last year’s Huddstock Festival by Variety Lives! Impresario Mike McCarthy.

Mike was planning a new kind of show which would bring together comedy, music and variety acts. Ruby and Noah fitted the bill as talent for the future.

The tour will take the pair to Brighton, Bath and Devon but you can see them first on April 18 at Sheffield’s Library Theatre alongside Jo Caulfield.

Born to jazz-loving parents, Ruby’s early music experience was as a seven-year-old member of the North Stars Steel Orchestra in Huddersfield.

She played steel pan at the Notting Hill Carnival in London and went with the North Stars on a UK tour with jazz trombonist Dennis Rollins, taking in sellouts at Brecon and Cheltenham jazz festivals.

“We are just starting out as full-time musicians and in this credit crunch atmosphere, we are finding that many promoters are plying it safe by only booking established names,”said Ruby.

“So it is a real thrill to get this chance to play full houses with some top acts. We’ll learn a lot and have a great time.”
