BEST-selling American author Laura Kasischke is a lauded poet and novelist. While yet to hit best-seller lists in the UK, this multiple award-winning writer’s earlier work has captured imaginations in the US and across Europe.

In her latest book, The Raising, she explores themes of evil, youth and death that unfold on a small-town university campus. In a shadowy, unsure and ethereal setting, the confusion and tension mounts as we discover the truth behind a bizarre road accident that leaves a beautiful girl dead and her arrogant boyfriend suffering with amnesia.

While not especially ground-breaking, The Raising is a beautifully written example of a collegiate mystery with elements of dark romance. JAMES FRY
