IT IS a milestone event for one of the area’s leading brass bands.

Brighouse and Rastrick Band returns to Huddersfield Town Hall on March 20 for its 125th massed band concert.

The town hall has been the venue for the concerts from their outset in 1945. In the early years the Brighouse band organised one massed concert a year but they became so popular that they began to run spring and autumn. To mark this anniversary event, Brighouse and Rastrick have ventured outside the customary field of top contesting bands by inviting the premier Salvationist ensemble, Enfield Citadel Band from North London, to appear with them in the concert which starts at 7.15pm.

The Citadel Band was founded in 1891 and is expected to offer a unique contribution to this special occasion.

Guest conductor Garry Cutt is well known to the host band. He was musical director of Grimethorpe Colliery Band for many years and has had remarkable contesting success as conductor of Foden’s Band.

The programme includes a performance of Tchaikovsky’s1812 Overture.
