THE YORKSHIRE Traction and Honley Band has a lot on its hands.

For as well as a concert tomorrow in its home village the band is, once again, on the hunt for a new conductor.

Tomorrow’s concert is at St Mary’s Church in Honley just a few minutes walk from the bandroom in Berrycroft, just off the village centre where the band rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays.

The band will be sharing an evening of music with Homespun Talent, which comprises members of St Mary’s Church Choir.

The concert starts at 7.15pm and tickets are £5 on the door.

The band has a string of summer engagements including playing at galas at Beaumont Park, Crow Nest Park and Peasholm Park in Scarborough.

It will play at those with a stand-in conductor as it searches for a new musician to take over the helm.

Nicholas Eastwood, who at 19 was thought to be one of the country’s youngest band conductors, took on the band last autumn when he was studying at Huddersfield University.

But since changes in his university plans, Nicholas is now living in York and is unable to make the twice a week commute to Honley.

Band officials hope to find a replacement quickly and say they would also welcome inquiries from experienced players in need of a seat. Call the secretary Peter Large for details on 01484 685082.
