CHRIS GOMERSALL has joined Brighouse and Rastrick Band as solo trombone.

Chris takes the chair following the departure of Gary MacPhee who has left due to increasing professional playing commitments.

Originally from Jarrow, Tyne and Wear, Chris started playing in the Salvation Army.

He was formerly Principal Trombone of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, was a Brass finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, former British Open Trombone Champion and Warwick Music/The Valve national trombone competition winner.

Chris studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Denis Wick, Ian Bousfield and Dudley Bright, and was awarded an Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music undergraduate scholarship and the Mark Elliot scholarship.

He has performed with orchestras and ensembles such as the Britten Sinfonia, English Brass Ensemble and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band and most recently played for the Fishburn Band at the Spring Festival in Blackpool.

The band thanked Gary for his contribution to the band and wished him well for the future as they welcomed a new face and a new talent to their ranks.
