WORKSHOPS are a great way to improve the playing of young musicians – and to let them have even more fun than usual.

That’s what happened when Chris Bradley, principal percussionist at Opera North, joined young players from Sellers International Youth Band at one of their rehearsals.

This was the first of a series of workshops which aim to give the players a broad yet intensive approach to music – and was a huge success.

Chris led Sellers’ players through a rhythm workshop. They started with basic clapping, then progressed to more complicated rhythms and eventually to improvisation using their instruments.

There are plans for more workshops in the autumn including, jazz, singing and classes led by leading players and organised by musical directors Alexandra and Simon Kerwin.
