THE singers of Gledholt Male Voice Choir take their talents this weekend to neighbouring Salendine Nook.

The choir will be offering an evening of light music tomorrow at the Baptist Church in Salendine Nook as part of the church’s regular series of concert which runs monthly through the winter. The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5 with accompanied children admitted free.

Tomorrow’s event is part of the choir’s busy schedule in the run up to Christmas. Get December 8 in your diary for that’s when the choir will be in Brighouse for its Christmas concert.

The concert, at Brighouse Central Methodist Church, Brighouse will have a traditional, family feel thanks to a programme of popular Christmas items from the choir’s extensive repertoire and the presence of the choir’s guests, a quartet of young musicians, all from the same family. Those guests are the Twaddles - four talented Guiseley siblings who have won places in two top orchestras.

Michael, 15, Christopher, 14, Joanna ,11 and Sarah, 9 - have all landed places in the National Youth and National Children's orchestras.

The siblings also play for Bradford Grammar upper and lower school orchestras and their progress is perhaps due in no small part to mum, who is also a violinist.

The children play violin, viola and cello both as soloists and in combination.

Violinist Michael secured his place in the National Youth Orchestra (NYO) after passing a tough selection process. And, not to be outdone, brother Christopher, who plays the viola, and younger sisters Joanna, who plays the cello, and violinist Sarah also landed places in the junior ensemble - the National Children's Orchestra.

The brothers and sisters practise for up to three hours a day and often play in their own string quartet.

The choir is pleased to welcome back its accompanist John S Bailey who has recovered from a long illness. He will accompany the choir on piano and organ. MD Paul Iredale will direct the singers.

Ticket/ programmes for the Brighouse concert are £5 from Brian Clayton (01484 711633) or on the door.
