JOIN the Rodillian Singers, an award-winning female choir, for a concert in Dewsbury Minster next weekend.

The choir will is known to Huddersfield concertgoers thanks to its win last year in the choir programme class at the Mrs Sunderland Festival, where it was also awarded the Jessie Jameson Centenary Baton for best song of the day.

Joining the Singers in next Saturday’s (July 18) Summer Serenade concert will be Gawthorpe Brass Band.

Now based in East Ardsley, the Rodillian Singers began in 1964 when a group of “old girls” from Rothwell Grammar School got together to sing for fun.

Today the choir. led by musical director Sue Gwynn, has developed a challenging and diverse repertoire which has given them a number of festival successes.

Sue was encouraged fromŠ an early age by both her mother, who was a music teacher and also a former Rodillian member herself, and by Joyce Blakey, head of music at Rothwell Grammar School and founder of the Rodillian Singers.Š
