On his latest tour, Stephen K Amos is getting serious.

Politics, religion, money, — all the awkward questions will be posed to his audience at Leeds City Varieties as his tour comes to Yorkshire at the end of February.

The Welcome To My World tour promises the same anecdotes from Stephen's own life and audience interaction that his fans expect — but this time, he's bringing out the tricky topics.

"On this tour it's about the awkward questions we don't really ask each other," he said. "Dinner party conversation killers: political beliefs, religion, how much money you earn — just to get a reaction from the audience."

It sounds like the making of a tense atmosphere, but the comic said he'd enjoyed some amazing responses from audiences across the UK.

"People feel disarmed, more comfortable," he added. "These days, instead of talking to friends about issues you see what they have put on Facebook and think, 'What? You think like that?' without discussing it with them."

"We talk about multi-cultural societies, bearing in mind what's been happening around the world, with invasions, war and terrorism."

But let's be clear — this is still a stand up gig.

"Having a laugh, that's what it's all about. Leave your woes at home, leave the cold at the door and come in and have some proper belly laughs."

Having been on tour since September (aside from two-week Christmas break), Stephen said life on the road feels a bit like 'groundhog day' — but he's still having fun.

"The audiences are coming out to support me and we're having a great time, so I'm enjoying it," he said.

And he's a long way from finished, with dates across the UK until March, when he leaves Britain for Australia, a European leg, and later this year, the USA.

He said: "It's going to be an international year for me," he said.

"I just feel at a stage in my life where I've got no commitments tying me to the UK, like immediate family or a significant other."

But before he jets off to the States, Stephen's looking forward to a trip to the City Varieties.

"I love that venue," he said. "The last time I played Leeds it was just coming up to the Christmas, and they had the pantomime set on stage.

"They asked me if I would mind performing in front of it, and it was like a gift to a small child! They had a snow machine and I got them to put it on. I do love Leeds."
