HE calls himself Diamond Dac Charnley and he’s hoping punters will find his new CD a gem.

The folk blues guitarist (pictured) from Huddersfield has released an album appropriately called Got Those Blues, 12 tracks demonstrating his acoustic picking and singing.

Although he played guitar for a bit in his teens he was a fairly late starter when it came to serious playing.

Dac says: “At 16 I learned a few chords and jammed with a couple of bands, such as the Fugitives and the BobCats.

“Then work, business, life, women, marriage and children took over.

“I did not touch a guitar for over 20 years, but decided to go back to music two divorces later.”

He set about learning with an obsessional passion, travelling anywhere and everywhere to listen and learn, inspired by masters such as John Jackson and Louisiana Red.

After trips all over the British Isles and to Europe and the USA he now plays six-string wood guitar, 12-string, banjo, harmonica and mandolin.

He’s got dates coming up at Holmfirth Music Festival on May 9 and at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire on May 17.

There then follows a trip abroad to a blues jamboree at Puerto Pollensa on the island of Majorca on May 25.

Dac, who lives at Berry Brow, says he just loves to play his music, whether for just a few friends or a big crowd.

His ambitions?

“Develop my songwriting, work on my techniques and tunes and record several more albums.

“I also want to continue running teaching workshops and be involved in promoting acoustic concerts and shows,” he says.
