DIRECTOR Dennis Thewlis has directed his sons Mark and Ben in the latest Honley Players’ stage production.

Dennis has long directed and acted for the Honley society but for the company’s next show, which opens on Wednesday (May 13), he will be very much in the wings when his boys, Mark and Ben step out into the spotlight.

Mark plays the role of Bob in this unusual domestic comedy by tv writer Jimmie Chinn. And even on stage, he can’t quite get away from family as his real-life brother Ben is cast alongside him as his character’s brother-in-law, Arthur.

At the heart of Straight And Narrow are the characters Bob and his partner Geoff whose gay relationship is accepted by Bob’s sisters and their families.

The big question is, just how much does Bob’s domineering mum understand of their situation. The answers provide bags of entertainment in what is described as a playful domestic comedy.

The five remaining company members include two newcomers, Chris Walsh who will be taking on his first role as Geoff and Sarah Clenton who swaps her behind the scenes job as one of the society’s make-up team for a part on stage as Nona.

There are four evening performances at 7.30pm at Southgate Theatre, Honley, starting on Wednesday. Tickets from Karidays newsagents in Honley or on the door.
