ERIC Cooper is used to working with Huddersfield’s U3A Choir.

He is, after all, its joint conductor. But at a concert with the choir next weekend, Eric will take on another role, as a soloist.

In addition to his other musical talents, Eric is much admired for his skills as a cellist.

And it is in that guise that he will appear with the U3A Choir at the concert on Saturday, April 27 at Moldgreen United Reformed Church (2pm).

He will play alongside two other instrumentalists with whom he has formed the Antonin Trio – Antonin was the first name of the composer Dvorak.

The trio comprises Eric on cello with violinist Roy Gerrard and pianist Christopher Pulleyn.

Roy runs his own string orchestra in Barnsley and Christopher, in addition to his piano skills, has been making a name for himself as a singer.

He won the recital class and the tenor solo class at this year’s Mrs Sunderland Music Festival and will be performing some solo voice items.

The U3A mixed voice choir conducted by Eric and Malcolm Fairless and accompanied by Corinne Lord, has more than a 100 members and is thought to be the largest choir in West Yorkshire with the exception of the Huddersfield Choral Society.

To prepare for the concert the choir has been continuing with rehearsals after the end of term and members have contributed £10 each to pay for the hire of premises.

Tickets for the concert, which include an interval drink, are £6 and can be obtained by phoning 01484 517781 or you can buy them on the door.
