October half term is synonymous with Halloween hi-jinx, and there are plenty planned in Huddersfield!

Spooky celebrations and activities are planned across Kirklees during the half term holidays, from craft sessions to spooky story telling, walks and themed markets.

So don your finest Halloween costumes, practice calling "trick or treat?"  and head down to some Halloween fun near you.

Here's what's on this half-term for Halloween:

Tuesday October 28:

  • Halloween Family Glass Workshop, Slaithwaite Community Centre, Slaithwaite, 12.30pm-4.15pm
    A fun day out for the whole family — these workshops hosted by Alx Creations give young and old the chance to come together for some fused glass art fun. Three classes are available: participants can make a firework tile (12.30pm-1.30pm, £15), make a glass monster (1.45pm-3pm, £22) or make a Halloween decoration (3.15pm-4.15pm, £18). Wednesday October 29:

  • Halloween Crafts, Oakwell Hall, Birstall, 10am-noon and 1pm-3pm
    Get creative with creepy crafts and other ghoulish activities at Oakwell Hall. Admission is £2 per child, for children aged five to 16 years.
  • Spooktacular, Dewsbury Market Cloth Hall Street, Dewsbury, 10am-3pm
    Head down to Dewsbury Market for some Halloween-themed fun, with a trick or treat trail, spooky characters and face painting. The Spooktacular event is free - head down with the kids to get them ready for Halloween.

Thursday October 30:

  • Spooktacular, Huddersfield Open Market, Brook Street, Huddersfield, 10am-3pm
    Head down to Huddersfield Open Market for some Halloween-themed fun, with a trick or treat trail, spooky characters and face painting. The Spooktacular event is free - head down with the kids to get them ready for Halloween.
  • Spooky Storywalk in Golcar, Cowlersley and Milnsbridge Children's Centre, Golcar, 10am
    Head to the children's centre in Beech Avenue for refreshments followed by a 30 minute walk to Golcar Library for Halloween-themed stories and activities. Don your best spooky costumes — there will be prizes for the best fancy dress!
  • Creepy Crow Nest, Dewsbury Museum, Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury, 12pm-4pm
    Fancy following a spooky trail around Crown Nest Park? Head down to Dewsbury Museum for Creepy Crow Nest - you can also make mini Halloween lanterns and bats and spiders to scare your friends with! The event, for children aged five to 14, is free - no need to book.
  • Spooky Storywalk in Slaithwaite, Valleys North Children's Centre, Slaithwaite Town Hall, 1.30pm
    Head to the children's centre in Carr Lane for refreshments followed by a 30 minute circular walk, with Halloween-themed stories and activities. Don your best spooky costumes — there will be prizes for the best fancy dress!

Halloween - Friday October 31:

  • Spooktacular, Queensgate Market Demonstration Zone, Princess Alexandra Walk, Huddersfield, 10am-3pm
    Head down to Queensgare Market for some Halloween-themed fun, with a trick or treat trail, spooky characters and face painting. The Spooktacular event is free - head down with the kids to celebrate Halloween in style!
  • Halloween Howler, Tolson Museum, Ravensknowle Park, Huddersfield, 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm
    Creepy crafts and spooky fun await you at Tolson Museum this Halloween - there's some spooks and ghouls waiting for you! Admission costs £1 per child.
  • Halloween Miniature Railway, Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, 5pm-7pm
    Alll aboard for some Halloween hijinx - the special Halloween train will be running in Greenhead Park (weather permitting). Mr Spooky will be driving the magical ghost train - get dressed up in spooky outfts and join the fun! Train rides cost £1.20-£3.
