On Saturday Huddersfield's Christmas lights switch on will fill the town with festive cheer.

Live entertainment, music, games and special guests are lined up to help the town kick off the 2014 Christmas season in style before the twinkling lights are illuminated for the first time.

With the build up beginning at 4pm, crowds will be wrapping up warm and filling the Piazza in the town centre for some festive fun.

Here's everything you need to know about Huddersfield's Christmas lights switch on 2014:

  • What's happening at this year's switch on?
    From live music to Christmas games, special guests and of course that all important countdown, the switch-on promises to deliver a bundle of festive cheer. Crowds will be treated to the Pulse 1 Roadshow, a Powerhooping performance from HD Hoopers, performances from Piazza People winners Shawny Dee and Sophie Williams, entertainment from the Kirklees College Dancers and Singers, the Tom Gee Band live, Dr Ranj from CBeebies, and festive games with Town Crier Vic Watson and Huddersfield Town Mascot Terry the Terrier.

  • Will Santa be there?
    Of course — and there's rumours of a daredevil arrival by the man in red that you'll have to see to believe!

  • Who's turning on the lights this year?
    Dr Ranj, star of CBeebies show Get Well Soon, is heading to Huddersfield to spread some festive cheer and press that all-important switch-on button. Other special guests include the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Cllrs Ken Smith and Christine Smith and the Rev Wayne Clarke, who will deliver this year's Christmas message.

  • When is the Christmas lights switch on?
    This Saturday,  November 15.

  • What time does the switch on start?
    The festivities kick off at 4pm.

  • Where is the switch on taking place?
    The  switch on takes place at the Piazza in Huddersfield Town Centre.

  • What time with the Christmas lights be turned on?
    After an exciting 30-second countdown, the festive lights will be illuminated at 6.30pm and Christmas music will fill the air.

  • Do I need to buy tickets?
    No — the family event is free to attend. Just wrap up warm and head into Huddersfield to join the fun!
