The clip-clop of hooves and a booming 'ho, ho ho!' will be heard in Lindley and Shelley tomorrow as the annual reindeer parade makes its way through the villages.

The parade sees thousands line the streets to greet Santa Claus in his reindeer-drawn sleigh, heralded locally as the start of Christmas .

Real life Cairngorm reindeers, from Scotland, pull Father Christmas through the two villages to officially open the festive Grottos at the Pennine and Birchencliffe Garden Centres, part of the Wyvale Garden Centres group.

Birchencliffe Garden Centre manager Andrew Tyers said: " It's a Christmas tradition. Everyone loves seeing Santa arrive in his sleigh, it starts Christmas in the village. When we have the parade they know Christmas is around the corner.
