Mirfield Agricultural Show attracts riders from across Yorkshire to showcase their ponies and horses.

The Horse and Pony Show is one of the major competitions planned for the August 17 event, and proud owners need to register by Monday August 11 if they want to take part.

The are seven classes in this year's competition, with rosettes for all the winners and a Best in Show trophy.

Here's everything you need to know about the Horse and Pony Show:

When and where will the show take place?

The show is held at in the main ring at Mirfield showground.

It starts at 9am and will finish at around 11.30am.

What classes are there to enter?

The classes at the 2014 show are:

  • Class 1 - Best condition in hand
  • Class 2 - Mountain and moorland in hand
  • Class 3 - Riding pony not exceeding 14-2hh
  • Class 4 - Riding hose exceeding 14-2hh
  • Class 5 - Novice rider
  • Class 6 - Open rider
  • Class 7 - Bonny pony/Handsome horse

How do I enter?

To enter the Horse and Pony Show, riders must register using the online registration form - the closing date is Monday August 11 and may be sooner if the show is fully booked.

There may be space on show day but there is no guarantee if that class has been fully subscribed in advance.

Entry costs £4 in advance (payable via Paypal on using as part of the online registration form) or £5 on the day. All horses must be booked in on show day before 8.45am.

What are the show rules?

  1. Entries (with appropriate insurance details) can be made online or by writing to The Horse Secretary, Mirfield Agricultural Show Society, 51 Springfield Park, Mirfield WF14 9PE.
  2. All entries must be bookedin at the Information Point by 8.30am for Class 1 and by 9am for all other classes.
  3. Current standard headgear must be worn, with the harness fastened at all times when mounted on the showground.
  4. Classes may be combined, or split, at the judge's discretion.
  5. Horses and ponies must remain in the allocated areas at all times and exhibitors must comply with guidance and instructions given by the judges and stewards.
  6. No refunds will be given for withdrawals, except in the case of classes cancelled by the organisers.
  7. Entrants must be in possession of valid horse passports as appropriate.
  8. All exhibitors must have valid and suitable third party liability insurance cover and are expected to have their own personal injury insurance.
  9. Mirfield Agricultural Show Society, its staff or any person relation to the Society cannot take any responsibility for any loss or damage caused to people, animals or property while on the showground.
