Examiner readers have chosen what films they want to watch at the two Big Screen Weekends in the town centre this summer.

The free movies will be shown on giant screens in St George’s Square on a couple of weekends.

The first will be the weekend of Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28 with the second from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23.

Over the course of the weekends 10 movies will be shown.

There was a 20-strong shortlist and an online vote ran on the Examiner website for readers to vote for which ones they want to watch.

They are split into five family movies and five kids movies.

Those selected are Family – Mama Mia, Despicable Me, Up, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and ET.

The Kids movies are Frozen sing-along, Toy Story, The Lion King, Shrek and The Lego Movie

Two charities will benefit from the screenings – Kirkwood Hospice and the Huddersfield Town Foundation.

In St George’s Square there will also be a host of food and drink stalls with seating and gazebos offering family fun and entertainment.

The Big Screen Weekends, which will run from 10am-9pm each day, were conceived following the success of the Tour de Yorkshire and the Festival of Light 2014 which combined big screen movie showings with food and drink stalls, attracting thousands of visitors to the town centre.

The screen will also be used for advertisers’ videos and short films relating to Huddersfield.

The event is being sponsored by Huddersfield recruitment firm Stafflex and is being organised by Huddersfield-based Food Festivals Ltd.
