The Festival of Light returns to Huddersfield on Saturday November 29, with a bumper line up of entertainment planned.

From sing-along movies at the St George's Square outdoor cinema to sci-fi-themed DJ sets, fireworks and mesmerising light shows, this year's one-day festival is bound to draw crowds to the town centre.

Kirklees Council has announced which roads will be affected by the festival with closures taking effect from 7am through to midnight.

If you plan to drive into the town centre for the festivities, don't be caught out by the closures and leave extra time for your journey.

Here are the roads due to close for the Festival of Light:

Closed from 7am on November 29:

  • Byram Street from its junction with Kirkgate to its junction with Northumberland Street
  • St Peter's St from its junction with Lord Street to its junction with John William St Street
  • Church Street from its junction with John William Street to its junction with Byram Street

Closed from 9am on November 29:

  • John William Street from its junction with Viaduct Street and its junction with Westgate/Kirkgate
  • Fitzwilliam Street from its junction with the ring road spiral and its junction with John William Street (traffic allowed to access from John William Street only)
  • Brook Street
  • Wood Street
  • Lord Street from its junction with Brook Street to its junction with Northumberland Street
  • Friendly Street and Knight Street from their junction with Lord Street to their junction with Northumberland Street
  • Northumberland Street from its junction with John William Street and its junction with South Gate
  • St George's Square
  • Railway Street
  • George Street
  • Station Street
  • St Pete's Street from its junction with Byram Street to its junction with Station Street
  • Byram Street from its junction with Brook Street to its junction with Northumberland Street

A temporary taxi rank will be situated on Byram Street above the post office.
