If you and your children love outdoorsy stuff you are spoiled for choice round these parts.

A personal favourite is Dove Stone (or Dovestone) Reservoir, near the village of Greenfield, about 10 miles west of Holmfirth.

The stunning landscape resembles a mini Lake District, but without the need for a tiresome drive up the M6.

Park up in the pay-and-display car park and enjoy the views as you complete a circuit of the reservoir, which is about 2.5 miles.

Dove Stone is an RSPB-managed nature reserve and families can enjoy Discovery Sunday events until September 25.

After all that fresh air you might want a bite to eat. There are lots of farm shop cafes across the county but a personal favourite is the cafe at Bolster Moor Farm Shop, Bolster Moor.
