It's an exciting week for Star Wars fans with The Force Awakens finally landing in cinemas on Thursday December 17.

And with the Los Angeles premiere taking place in Hollywood last night, celebrities made sure they were there in order to get a first look at the highly anticipated new film.

The movie's cast including Harrison Ford who plays Han Solo, Daisy Ridley who is Ren, Mark Hamill who plays Luke Skywalker, Carrier Fisher who is Princess Leia, John Boyega who plays Finn, Gwendoline Christie who plays Captain Phasma, Oscar Issac who plays Poe Dameron, Adam Driver who is Kylo Ren and Lupita Nyong'o who plays Max Kanata all hit the red carpet.

Other guests included newlyweds Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara, Jaime King, Sarah Hyland and Elizabeth Banks.

After the premiere film fans and journalists took to Twitter to give their verdicts on the latest movie in the Star Wars franchise.

So does J.J. Abrams' latest blockbuster live up to the expectations?

Adam B Vary, a reporter for Buzzfeed, tweeted: "Rest easy: The Force Awakens is 100% Star Wars, and something new. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac: welcome."

Rebecca Keegan, a film writer for the Los Angeles Times, wrote: "Story, characters, design, humour - Star Wars fans, this is the movie you're looking for."

Documentary director Brett Morgen, best known for Montage of Heck, about Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, wrote: "Force Awakens might be the best blockbuster since the original."

He added: "Force Awakens delivers on every level. Lucas and Spielberg in the house tonight. DO NOT READ ANY REVIEWS. Experience it fresh."

And Rainn Wilson, star of The Office US, who dressed up as Obi-Wan Kenobi said: "It was epic, awesome and perfect."

The movie premieres in London tonight and will be available to see in cinemas on Thursday.

Where can I see it in Huddersfield?

Huddersfield Odeon

Hardcore fans can see the film at 12:01am and 12:15am on Thursday December 17, in both 2D and 3D.

Then there are screenings at least every hour from 09.15am on Thursday, through to 11:15pm, with screenings available to book every day until Christmas Eve.

Halifax Vue Cinema

The Vue cinema in Halifax is also showing the new Star Wars film at 12.01am on Thursday, in 2D and 3D.

It will then be shown roughly every half an hour between 9am and 12:45am on Thursday, with dates available to book every day (excluding Christmas Day) through to January 3.

Showcase Birstall

The Showcase, which was recently refurbished to become a 'cinema de lux' with reclining seats, is also hosting a midnight screening and will then show the film, in 2D and 3D, at least every two hours between 9am and midnight on Thursday.

Tickets are available to book daily (excluding Christmas Day) until December 31.

IMAX Bradford

The midnight screening at the IMAX in Bradford has sold out — but showings resume from 8.30am on Thursday.

There are screenings all in 3D, available to book right through to January 28.
