Huddersfield couples showed Britain how to eat, drink and be merry on a top TV show.

Meltham pair Sophie and Harj Toor and Golcar couple Jane and Bolster Moor butcher Sean Tyndall became hits on Channel 4’s Couples Come Dine With Me Huddersfield and Bradford show, which was aired this week, for their joke cracking and cooking skills.

And both pairs proved the quality of the area’s cuisine when they clinched first and second place for dishes that brought together the exotic and some of Kirklees best produce.

It was lively nurse Sophie, 45, and financial adviser Harj , 49,of Huddersfield Road who stole their show and won £1000 for their Mexican-themed night– complete with multi-coloured ponchos and sombreros.

They magicked up barbecued corn with peppers and chorizo, chicken fajitas and homemade margarita ice cream with Mexican wedding cookies and poached guava.

They were the first to create a meal over three consecutive days in March, which also featured Bradford couple Libby Peacock and Richard Ashton.

But nurse Sophie, who runs Respiratory Matters, said that all deserved first place.

She said: “Every year we like to do something off the wall and this was the one for 2015.

Couples Come Dine With Me

“It was a fantastic experience and I think that everyone should have won.

“I’m not a chef– we just wanted to meet people and having fun.”

To celebrate their win they decided to invite both couples at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

“Both couples were lovely and our view with the prize money was that it was money we didn’t have before so we booked a dinner for everyone at the Old Vicarage near Sheffield.

“Unfortunately Richard and Libby couldn’t come but we took Sean and Jane and between us managed to spend over half the prize money!”

Banks Avenue pair Sean, 47, and Jane, 45, who came second, said all couples are now friends.

Sean whipped up a meat feast using meat he cut himself in the butchery at the farm shop.

The pair are keen amateur actors, with Sean involved in the Longwood Amateurs and Jane in Honley Players and Huddersfield Thespians.

Sean, who cracked dozens of jokes throughout the show, said: “It was fabulous.

“They all had high expectation of me as I’m a butcher but I love cooking so it was great.

“Everyone at the farm shop was wearing stickers of me in the run up to the show and I had such a laugh doing it– I think they could have fitted a few more of my jokes in though.”

The show can still be seen on All 4.
