Smash hit thriller Happy Valley has added another award to its glass cabinet.

The BBC drama, shot around Sowerby Bridge, Halifax and Huddersfield, scooped Best Drama at last night's BAFTA Television Awards, beating Line of Duty, The Missing and Peaky Blinders.

Written by Sally Wainwright and starring Sarah Lancashire as no-nonsense copper Catherine Cawood, the kidnap drama was a hit with viewers, named as the best TV programme of 2014 by Radio Times readers.

It also bagged a Best New Drama Award at last year's TV Choice Awards, with Sarah Lancashire named Best Actress at the ceremony.

Elland-born Sally Wainwright also wrote top TV series Last Tango in Halifax, Scott & Bailey and Unforgiven.

The first series of Happy Valley was filmed at North Light Film Studios, Brookes Mill, Armitage Bridge, as well as around Huddersfield, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and other parts of Calderdale.

North Light Film Studios is one of the largest independent studios in the north and has a variety of land and buildings which offer wide scope to directors.

Other notable productions screened there include 1920s gangster drama series Peaky Blinders, film When The Lights Went Out and ghost story Remember Me.

Happy Valley has been commissioned for a second series, with filming due to begin n August.

Sarah Lancashire will return for six new episodes, alongside James Norton, who played the villainous Tommy Lee Royce.
