Alex Brooker was introduced as "the scourge of Huddersfield" on tonight's The Last Leg - as his joke about living in Huddersfield continued to haunt him.

The TV presenter had to declare his love for our town live on Channel 4 after show host Adam Hills laughed at his social media misfortune.

Co-presenters Adam Hills and Josh Widdicombe laughed as the 31-year-old read out some of the digs he'd received online from people defending Huddersfield, including someone saying "he had weird eyes".

"It was a big news week in Huddersfield by the looks of it," Brooker joked.

"Look, it was a joke! I just said it, my wife is from Huddersfield, it was a joke! I've had all sorts of vitriol this week, and all sorts of abuse from northerners.

"Quite a few people said I'd only said it because I was jealous."

He added: "I love the place, I love the place, I do, I geniunely do like it."

Hills then revealed Brooker was heading back to the Hudd this weekend to visit his in-laws."Don't tell them where I'm going to be!" he protested.

Brooker, 32, caused a Twitter storm after last Friday's edition of The Last Leg, when he said he wouldn't want to live in Huddersfield.

He then issued an 'unreserved apology on Twitter, and asked Huddersfield Giants star Eorl Crabtree to protect him from the backlash!

Brooker also explained his remarks on the Huddersfield Examiner Facebook page.

He said: "It was said messing around because my wife and her family are from there.

"I go there quite a lot and like the place, thought I'd clear that up."

During the show we appealed to Alex for a truce - time will tell if he takes us up on the offer!
