Autumnwatch (8.30pm, BBC2)

One of the treats of this year’s Autumnwatch has been the hours of live footage that’s been available on the red button and  online  from 7am every morning on Autumnwatch Extra.

Shot by Richard Taylor Jones from the hide at RSPB Leighton Moss at Silverdale, north-west Lancashire, we've been treated to mini masterclasses in wildlife photography as he’s explained the challenges of trying to film birds in flight, keeping them in focus, and in the centre of the frame as they dart past the sun, and behind trees.

These have been the kind of sequences you’re not likely to see in the more structured pieces so if you haven’t dipped into it yet, do try and catch it today.

But be warned, it can be surprisingly addictive.

Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Game are back at 8.30pm for their final report of the series.

The new military-grade thermal imaging cameras have already shown us plenty of surprises filmed in the black of night making this show as exciting for technology buffs as it is for nature lovers.

Autumnwatch Unsprung with Nick Baker follows at 9.30pm.

Orphan Black (9pm and 9.45pm, BBC3)

The concluding double bill to this Canadian cult thriller leaves the door wide open and banging in the wind for season two which has already been commissioned.

And tonight the question of who to trust is taken out for another spin as the police department finally (finally!) work out that one of their colleagues is not who they think she is, evil Helena is up to her usual tricks, and Sarah comes face to face with the puppet master Dr Leekie (played by Matt Frewer who once played the computer generated talkshow host, Max Headroom).

But it’s suburban soccer mom Alison who continues to provide some of the show’s biggest surprises.

Man Down (9.30pm, Channel 4)

Look out for the special makeover tent tonight as Dan’s friend Jo embarks on yet another hare-brained career.

If Jo represents the mad end of the spectrum, Dan, who’s somewhere in the middle, would really like to be more like his other friend Brian, a super-straight accountant who seems doomed to spend all his spare time  driving Dan around and generally coming to his rescue.

This week Dan (Greg Davies) is trying to prove to his ex-girlfriend Naomi that he’s trustworthy enough to attend his small niece’s birthday party – an idea which his lovely, twinkly mother (Gwyneth Powell who was Mrs McCluskey in Grange Hill) finds utterly hilarious. She may well be right.

The Graham Norton Show (10.35pm, BBC1)

You might have read that Jay-Z would be one of Graham’s guests tonight, but he’s dropped out and his spot has been taken by Jeremy Paxman, or Jay-P as we should maybe start calling him. Trust me, you’ll scarcely notice the difference.

Graham’s other guests are Dame Judi Dench, comedian John Bishop and Sir Elton John, who’ll be performing his new single Voyeur as well as chatting about his burst appendix, fatherhood and dancing with the Queen.

Just a typical day in Elton-land.

SOAP ROUND-UP

Emmerdale (7pm, ITV)

Jake’s not the only kid in Emmerdale who doesn’t know who his real parents are.

Tonight Cain claps eyes on his son Kyle for the first time while Rachel tells Kirk that things would be a lot simpler if he were Archie’s real dad.

But it’s Alicia who plucks up the courage to tell Jake that his birth mum is actually his auntie Leyla – shattering his little world in the process.

Coronation Street (7.30 &  8.30pm, ITV)

Don’t miss David Platt’s spooky Halloween trick tonight.

But it’s his brother Nick who’s causing the biggest frights at Faye’s Halloween party when he turns into the Incredible Hulk.

Faced with a room full of face-painted brats high on food colouring, egged on by Faye’s scheming bezzie mate Grace – we can only sympathise.

Eastenders (8pm, BBC1)

Alice has turned up with blood on her hands, but what ghastly scene awaits Michael when he goes to Janine’s house to cover her tracks?

Without giving away tonight’s ghoulish twists and turns, Halloween (Part 2) becomes an epic battle for Alice’s soul – punctuated by enough screaming and shrieking and scenery chewing to wake the dead.
