We now have four teams from a mixture of five different nationalities playing in the league. In January this year, we started with three juniors and this as grown to 16 registerd from the age of 7 to 14 plus 20 seniors. We've reached four cup finals in four years and been promoted three times.

Denby Dale Nursery School

Denby Dale Nursery School provides pre-school education for 3 to 4 year olds from Denby Dale and the surrounding villages. In addition we also provide daycare for babies and children aged from 0 to 4 years, and a holiday club for children up to the age of 8. We are a not for profit organisation. In February 2012 we were delighted to be rated by OFSTED as "outstanding" for both education and daycare. We were praised not just for the teaching but also for children’s behaviour and the way in which they learned to get along together. This provides them with an excellent preparation for school. The nursery is situated in the centre of the village and is very much at the heart of the community. We have a fundraising group – "Friends of Denby Dale Nursery" – made up of parents and supporters, who run fundraising and social events throughout the year to enable the school to buy additional toys and equipment. We are always looking for ways to improve the children’s experience at nursery.

Dryclough CE (VC) Infant School

We are a large, stand-alone infant school on the outskirts of Huddersfield. We have approximately 360 children on roll and are culturally very diverse. We have over 20 languages represented and strong links with our community. Our aim is for all our children to be the best that they can be and the resources that this money could provide could enable us to develop an even richer educational experience for our children and help them on their learning journeys.

Fibrofriends Kirklees

We are a support group for people with the chronic pain condition Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is not a life threatening condition but it is life changing and sufferers often feel isolated after diagnosis. The group is run by fibromyalgia sufferers in a positive way to encourage sufferers to support each other both in and out of group meetings. We aim to raise as much awareness as possible of this silent and invisible illness to enable sufferers to get the help they need. Along with our own fundraising efforts we would like to use any money towards the running costs of the support group and also to subsidise the cost of complimentary therapies for people with Fibromyalgia.

Forget Me Not Children's Hospice

The Forget Me Not Children's Hospice exists to give vital support to children with a life limiting or life threatening condition, and their families, across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. There are more than 700 children and young people in our area who may need the help that our hospice offers.

We currently look after over 50 children/young people and their families via our hospice at home service. We have recently moved into our new building, the hospice - Russell House, which was financed almost solely from fundraising efforts. Now that the building has been built, the next step is to get ready to open our doors to the children and families who we care for. It costs £2.5million per year to run the hospice, and with less than 4% of our annual income coming from the government, fundraising opportunities such as this are vital.

Friend to Friend

We target isolated and lonely older people who live in the more rural and semi rural areas of the valleys in Huddersfield, who rarely get out to meet with other people. From our beginnings of one lunch club a month in Holmfirth in 1996, we now hold 23 activities a month which include: arts and crafts, armchair exercise, local history, a men’s group, walking and intergenerational work with two local schools. We have almost 300 members whose average age is 83 years old and over 50 volunteers who give up their spare time to provide these activities and transport. We provide door to door transport for every member who requires it within our group catchment area.

Friends of Beaumont Park

Formed in 1998 we now work closely with Kirklees Council to restore Huddersfield's first public park to its former glory. From being an overgrown, unwelcoming place to visit in 1998 it is now very welcoming and interesting place to visit. The management committee is split into groups to manage various activities. The Visitor Centre volunteers welcome visitors, bake cakes and provide soup and sandwiches on Wednesdays as well as organising fund raising events. The Events Team organise all the outdoor entertainment including our Gala day which attracts thousands of people. The History and Heritage Team design and provide information for leaflets, display boards and give talks. The Park team work alongside the Kirklees Head Gardener to weed, cut back vegetation and tidy. The Woodland Management Team keep the vegetation under control. We distribute 7,000 newsletters and are always looking for grants to improve the park. With money from Heritage Lottery, Kirklees Council and FoBP the bandstand was reinstated in 2011. The final big project is to reinstate the pavilion at the playground end of the park and we will be targeting everyone to get involved in this.

Friends Of Meadow Court

Friends of Meadow Court is a group of people who raise money for the elderly residents of Meadow Court Residential Home so that they can have extra outings and treats. We have all had a mother, father, sister or brother at the home and enjoy going back to see the friendly faces of the staff and residents. We think a Remembrance Garden would be a good idea to help ease the pain of losing a loved one or for residents to sit and think of a friend they have lost. We need to provide plants and benches where people can sit.

Friends of St Thomas

We are a relatively newly formed Community Group. We are made up of parents and staff from St Thomas Primary School together with other members of the Bradley Community. Whilst we do undertake some traditional fundraising activities our focus goes beyond this. We have strong community links and are passionate about giving people the opportunity to become fully involved within their community. Our fundraising target for this year is to purchase a minibus for the school. This would enable many more off site visits and can be used for extra curricular activities. The Wish money would help us to achieve this target.

Friends of Tolson and Ravensknowle

The Friends of Tolson and Ravensknowle group was launched this year by the planting of a tree in the Park by the Mayor of Kirklees. This event also celebrated 90 years since the Tolson Museum with Ravensknowle Park was given to the people of Huddersfield by Legh Tolson on memory of his two nephews who were killed in the 1st World War. Tolson Museum is the Museum of Huddersfield. The Friends are passionate about improving and, where needed, restoring this very valuable resource for all the people of Huddersfield. We are committed to :-

• Assisting in the protection, management, and monitoring of the Museum and Park

• Promoting and supporting the Museum and Park as somewhere for recreation, education and enjoyment for all the community

• Raising awareness of what the Museum and Park have to offer, and raising money for special projects

• Bringing people together in a friendly and interesting place.

We are developing a Memorial Garden adjacent to the Museum to commemorate all those who died serving their country in conflicts since the 2nd World War. We will launch it in 2014, 100 years after the start of the 1st World War.

Greenfields Family Centre

Greenfields is a voluntary run, independent, neighbourhood based charity with no mainstream funding, serving the residents of Dalton and the surrounding areas of Rawthorpe and Moldgreen. The Centre’s main aim is to provide education and recreation for local residents to access, enjoy and benefit from. We have over 10 years experience of delivering services, with highly qualified, knowledgeable and skilled staff, most of whom live in the area. Their local knowledge allows us to embrace and be responsive to changing local issues.

Our aim is to:

• Deliver, co-ordinate and provide services that will support the area and individuals.

• Work towards developing a community spirit and responsibility by encouraging local people to participate in the management and day-to-day running of the centre and some of the services that we offer.

• Identify the needs of the area and devise ways in which we can respond accordingly.

Our diverse programme of activities include children’s activities, computer classes, social activities for the elderly and providing information and advice.

We also operate a community mini bus for the benefit of the area and other community, voluntary groups which work in South Kirklees.
