Netherton Pre-school
We are a charitable, local pre-school which provides early years provision for 2 to 5 year old children. We rely heavily on fundraising and donations to keep this essential amenity open for all the children within our local and surrounding area. It provides the children with a secure enviroment to enjoy play. We'd like to provide additional resources to our children and incorporate a stair lift within the premises. This would enable us to offer children with a disability to access early years education in a mainstream environment.

Newsome Panthers JRLFC
Formed in 1995, Newsome Panthers' main aim was to involve local children in the game of Rugby League. It has grown from an initial group of 12 players in its first season to over 200 players (male and female) currently involved with both of its junior and open age clubs. The children and young people who are engaged in the club come from a wide variety of backgrounds and we pride ourselves in being inclusive to all. The playing fields at Hall Bower sit in the middle of an area with some of the highest levels of deprivation in Kirklees. Run entirely by approximately 50 volunteers, the club has achieved many successes in its relatively short history. Over 30 players have signed professional contracts, three of which currently play in Super League (two for Huddersfield Giants). Over 150 have played for Kirklees Service Area from which several have represented both Yorkshire and England. In the older age groups both current and former players have represented Scotland, Ireland, England and Serbia in Student Games. The Club also encourages and promotes players, parents and club officials through associated courses such as refereeing, first aid, touchline management and coaching through the nationally approved UK Levels system.

We are a registered pre-school playgroup charity that provides care and education for all children aged 2 to 5 years of age, in a warm and welcoming environment. We are a long serving community group that has a highly qualified, committed staff team. The setting offers high quality care and education which is reflected in our Ofsted report. The setting is also affiliated with the local Sure Start Children's Center. We'd like some outdoor play equipment for the children.

Newsome Ward Community Forum
Our group allows representatives of voluntary organisations, community workers and residents to come together, share information and explore ways to support each other. It encourages the development of community based activity, and empowers people to pursue shared passions and fill identified gaps. We have bi-monthly meetings where we explore things of interest to our members and share information about local activities, and then help with the promotion of local activities. Outside of meetings, we are busy with community based activity: we helped establish Newsome Timebanking and Growing Newsome. We work in partnership to help develop a Community Wildlife site and orchard. We support the enhancements of the local church yard and put on an annual children's Christmas party, and play opportunities for children throughout the year. Funding to cover running costs is very difficult to find, so we would use it to help sustain core activity, including annual insurance, work to church grounds, our children's Christmas Party and play activity for children and young people.

RADYCAL
RADYCAL (Rawthorpe and Dalton, Youth and Children, Activities and Leisure) are a group of professional frontline workers who have come together to form a group who aim to address disadvantaged young people in and around the Rawthorpe and Dalton area. We try to help young people aged between 5 years and 19 years by offering leisure time activities. We research, organise and co-ordinate activities that will directly benefit young people. We work together to bring out the best in them and ensure they have fun in a safe and secure environment. Through engaging in our activities, we feel young people and children will be gainfully occupied and begin to build constructive relationships with supportive adults during the holiday periods, when otherwise they may become distracted into crime and disorder.

We are a super family club but receive no direct funding of any sort and therefore fundraise for all our own running/pitch/kit/equipment costs. Shepley Bowling Club
The Bowling Club has several adult teams and two junior teams who play in various local leagues. This is the juniors second year in competitive leagues and they are going from strength to strength, several having already been selected for the Yorkshire teams. We have provided the juniors with bowls, polo shirts and hooded sweatshirts which they have used and worn with pride. We also present them with trophies and awards at the end of the season - which is always an increasing cost due to more prizes awarded! The Club itself takes on projects to improve the Club and grounds, having recently installed a new power supply and refurbished floodlights. Now we are looking at improving a grassed area which is used for car parking by installing drainage and a tarmac surface. The Bowling Club services a wide range of people, from the very young who start in our junior teams at the age of 8 years, right up to the oldest members who play in the veterans teams. It is due to the generosity of our members, local community groups and the council that we can invest in not only the Club's future but for generations to follow.

Slaithwaite Brass Band
Slaithwaite Band has been in existence since 1896 and is primarily a group of amateur musicians who share a common purpose in the enjoyment of music. It plays an important part of both the local and Yorkshire heritage. The band is open to all members of the community. The age range of its members is currently 14 years to 70 years. It encourages and welcomes the youth in the local area to become involved in not only a life-time hobby, but one which can lead on to a professional vocation. As well as learning music, younger members also learn other life time skills such as team work, personal development, responsibility and self confidence amongst others. The band supports local community organisations by performing concerts for them i.e. Lions, good companions and the local care home. It regularly supports national events held within the local community, such as Remembrance Sunday and the Diamond Jubilee. It performs in the local parish church at both concerts and services. In addition to the fees it receives for its performances the band relies on members subscriptions to keep its heritage alive and deliver a cultural service to the community.

Holding your baby close to your body helps with breastfeeding, postnatal depression, bonding, colic, and reflux. Babies carried close in slings and carriers cry up to 50% less than babies placed in seats and bouncers. We are committed to helping parents find the right sling for them. Getting the right fit for both baby and parent can mean the difference between a baby protesting about being carried or loving it. The right sling can mean a mother is free to play with her toddler or make lunch or go shopping without having to worry about space on the bus or ending up carrying the baby while pushing an empty pram, while the baby gets the closeness it needs too. With the right sling you can carry your baby from newborn to preschooler without an aching back. Come along to our twice monthly meets to get a fitted for a sling before spending money on one that might not work for you. We would spend the money on training volunteers in correct infant positioning and buying new slings for people to try out in bigger sizes

The setting caters for children regardless of needs, ability and disability. When faced with a child's needs that are unfamiliar or challenging, staff are rightly trained, research is done and relevant help from outdoor agencies and parent would be sought. We intend to spend the money on our outdoor provision. We think it is important for children to explore and respect the outdoor environment. St Philip's Community Centre, Birchencliffe Volunteers from St Philip's Community Centre want to transform the wasteland behind the centre into an environmentally friendly garden and play area which will benefit the whole community. Their plans include landscaping and the creation of a garden plot with some raised beds for disabled gardeners. A willow tunnel will be planted to create a shaded attraction for young children to play in and around. Every day and every evening local people of all ages, from the very young to the young at heart, gather at the centre for a wide range of activities. Groups using the Centre include Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs & Scouts; The Cliffites Dramatic Society, Lindley Out of School Club, Rugby Tots, University of the Third Age and the Kiddiecats Nursery. St Thomas CofE Primary School
St Thomas CofE Primary School targets children from 3-11 years old. The school is in a highly deprived area with 40-45% of its pupils being on free school meals and 20% SEN children. It has a highly diverse population with 51% of the children being of non-white british heritage. The school itself is a vital part of the community and we pride ourselves in providing after school clubs and holiday play schemes for the pupils. The money would be vital in paying for local organisations to provide extra curricular activities, which many families would not normally be able to afford attendance fees for. We are also developing our outdoor learning environment and are currently in the process of creating an outdoor classroom for use in the holidays. The money would help to purchase outdoor furniture and stationery to use. Particularly during the holidays when the main school is closed and access to equipment is minimal. All these things will aid in our children having a fuller, more enriched learning experience whilst being educated here.
