A Birchencliffe pub is hosting its first ever beer festival next month.

The Cavalry Arms, on Halifax Road, has planned Cav Fest — a weekend of real ales, live music and food.

Taking place from Friday July 3 to Sunday July 5, the festival will feature a range of ales as as well as old favourites including Black Sheep Bitter and Copper Dragon's Golden Pippin.

On Saturday Jly 4, there will be live entertainment from musicians Taj Abbott, Harley Hay and Luke Howard.

The pub will also provide 'Sop Supper sarnies' from 2pm-5pm, so revellers can soak up the alcohol!

Other ales on the menu include:

  • Skinner's Ginger Tosser — a hoppy golden ale fused with Cornish honey and ginger;
  • Tiny Rebel's Fubar — blending floral hoppy flavours with dry, spicy bitterness;
  • Slater's Haka — A New Zealand pale ale with an aromatic finish;
  • Timothy Taylor's Landlord — a strong pale ale with a complex, hoppy aroma;
  • Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker — a Yorkshire bitter with a full measure of maltiness and a hoppy aroma.

Landlords Bob and Barbara Steer are hoping their first venture into beer festivals will go smoothly.

Bob said: "It's our first one, so we hope it will be a success. We have been around for years and have never held a beer festival.

"We both like our music so we've got three bands lined up, and some food. Let's hope it works!"

Cav Fest begins Friday July 3. Admission is free.
