First look inside Huddersfield's new ice cream parlour

Work is well under way at Icestone Gelato's Huddersfield parlour - and we've been given a sneak peek at how it's going to look!

The transformation of the former Toni and Guy hairdressing salon is going on behind covered-up windows - but artists' impressions of how the inside will look have been released by Yeme Arcitechts.

The opening date is not yet known - but earlier this month chief executive officer Mahboob Hussain said the chain was hoping to open at the end of March, depending on building work.

He told the Examiner: “We’re looking forward to coming to Huddersfield. We think it’s a vibrant town; there’s a lot going on and we want to be part of it.

“A number of customers from Huddersfield visit us in Bradford and Manchester so there’s a market for Icestone in Huddersfield.”

Mr Hussain said as well as two parlours in Bradford, one in Manchester and one in Birmingham, the team was planning to open a further six in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool by the end of 2017.

And he said Huddersfield ice cream fans could look forward to a few surprises when the new parlour opened, adding: “Every time we open a new branch we make amendments to the menu - as well as everything that’s currently available, we’re working on something new for Huddersfield - so watch this space!”

The Toni and Guy salon closed its doors in September after trading for more than 10 years on the John William Street site.

The ice-cream firm sells more than 26 different varieties of ice-cream, including Belgian chocolate, hazelnut, Jaffa cake, raspberry pavlova and blueberry muffin.

The outlets also offer Belgian waffles, crepes and a range of traditional puddings such as sticky toffee and jam roly-poly.

The firm’s flagship Bradford outlet operates until 1am and it is expected they will apply for similar opening hours in Huddersfield.
