As part of the renovation of the George Hotel in St George's Square, entrepreneur Altaf Hussain hopes to include a spectacular rooftop venue.
The plans also include 30 hotel rooms, 11 apartments, a luxury basement spa and a dental centre.
So to whet your appetite for the new bar, we've looked for some of the high-in-the-sky havens already thriving across the UK.
There's three just in Leeds — the glitzy Sky Bar at the Hilton hotel, cocktails and fine food at Angelica, on top of Trinity Kitchen, and a space for relaxation on the top of Belgrave Music Hall.
