The Slug and Lettuce has opened in Huddersfield following a £325,000 investment.

The popular bar chain has opened a new venue in King Street and is planning a glamorous launch party next month.

On Saturday July 4, the VIP event will offer cocktails and canapes from the bar's new menu, with entertainment from DJ Santero, the 2010 RedBull Threestyle Competition UK champion.

The first visitors to the bar on July 4 will receive free drinks and other freebies as the bar makes its mark on the King Street nightlife scene.

The Slug and Lettuce will also offer two-for-one cocktails daily and its Happy Mondays offer, with 50 per cent off food bills at the start of each week.

General Manager Richard Bardsley said: "King Street already has a great late-night reputation, but with the addition of this new Slug and Lettuce we are looking to attract a mature, female-friendly crowd.

"We are excited to offer a more premium venue for an early drink and a casual dining experience before offering somewhere lively later on in the evening."

The venue, formerly a Yate's, opens just weeks after the Tokyo nightclub unveiled its six-figure refurbishment.

As well as Tokyo, the building now includes include Brewhaus on the ground floor, offering craft beers and cocktails, Louie's Liquor Store in the basement, styled as a American speakeasy and boasting more than 50 varieties of bourbon, and The Boneyard, an outdoor terrace with barbecues, cocktails and live music.
