Craft beer fans will soon be able to raise a glass in Magic Rock Brewery's very own tap room.

The Huddersfield brewery, which only opened four years ago, will soon be offering their ales at source when the room is opened in Birkby on Saturday, June 20.

Managing director Richard Burhouse, whose craft beers have gained an international following, says he is looking forward to raising a glass with the brewery’s many fans.

In February the Examiner reported that the brewery was moving out of its cramped premises in Oakes in favour of Willow Business Park, off St John’s Road.

More than £750,000 was pumped into the investment and several new jobs created.

Richard said: “We’re looking to create a very warm and inclusive atmosphere in a cool industrial space.

“There will be nine keg and two cask beers on from the start and the prices will be very reasonable. For example, Ringmaster [3.9% pale ale] in cask will be £2.50 a pint.

“There will also be 1L & 2L ‘growlers’ [reusable take home containers] available to buy to take home.

“It feels great, and we’re really looking forward to the brewery having a proper ‘heart’ close to the centre of Huddersfield, and being able to serve the beer as fresh as possible.

“It’s worth mentioning that initially only the tap room will be open, we are still fitting out the actual brewery at the new site so we can’t offer tours yet and the beer you are drinking will be brewed at the original site in Oakes.

“After Saturday we’ll also be open on the Sunday from noon to 10pm and then the following week we’ll start with standard opening hours which will be Thursday/Friday 4pm till 10pm and Saturday/Sunday noon until 10pm.

“We are licensed for live music and will be running some events going forward.

“The entire brewery should be fully operational by early August and soon after we will have cans available to buy for consumption off site.”

As the brewery is sited at a unit on a trading estate the decor will be industrial in tone though there certainly won’t be any ‘industrial’ lager.

Despite the somewhat spartan environment there will be various Magic Rock touches here and there and there is an outdoor tabled area so punters will be able to enjoy any good weather.

There are also windows through to the brewing area so guests will be able to watch the fit out progress over the next four to six weeks.

Mr Burhouse added: “ We will have regular food trucks on site every Friday and Saturday so in addition to bar snacks there will be food available on those nights.

“We’d like the space to become an important part of the community as a whole, not just the local beer scene and have lots of ideas of how to achieve that going forward.

“We’re expecting to attract lots of people from out of the area which we think is a good news story for the town, but it’s worth saying that while there will be soft drinks and a wine choice available there definitely won’t be any industrial lager!”
