CELEBRATE Diwali, the Festival of Lights, at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park tomorrow.

The park and Manasamitra, the West Yorkshire-based arts company, have organised tomorrow’s events as part of their ongoing programme of south Asian music and dance events.

The day of celebrations begin at 11am and include a concert in the park’s auditorium at 2pm.

The concert will feature improvisations, video projections, lighting and soundscapes from Marva led by tabla player and composer Manver Singh.

Singh’s compositional style was greatly influenced by the loss of his eyesight. He says that as his vision deteriorated, he became more acutely aware of the often bewildering, everyday variety of sounds, accents and languages.

Through the use of ragas and their relationships with emotions, as well as the work of a video artist using projectors and lighting, the performers will attempt to give the audience an understanding of the relationship between music, sounds and visual impairment.

The event is free and you can drop in between 11am-4pm at the education workshop site. The activities are part of a year long series of music, dance, and fusion concerts featuring world class artists taking place at YSP.
