TWO choirs and a prize winning teenage singer.

That’s what’s on offer next Saturday (July 6) at Holmfirth Parish Church.

Vocal Expressions, the Holme Valley-based ladies’ choir, hosts the concert and has as its guests, the Pinsuti Chamber Choir from Ilkley.

Both choirs share the same conductor, Robert Webb, which is why the mixed voice ensemble of 20 singers from Ilkley is making its first appearance in Holmfirth.

The choirs will be joined on stage by 15-year-old Gabriel Hinchliffe. Gabriel, who attends Holmfirth High school, won the boy solo trophy for the third time at this year’s Mrs Sunderland competition.

Vocal Expressions will be singing six new additions to its repertoire, all arranged for them by Robert.

The new items include Bustopher Jones and Memory from the musical Cats plus The Lily and the Rose by Bob Chilcott, which is rapidly becoming a favourite with the choir.

They will also sing May Each Day and Songbird, first made famous by Fleetwood Mac as well as the Doris Day number, It’s Magic.

The Ilkley choir was formed in 1995 to specialise in mainly unaccompanied choral music, from Renaissance and Baroque periods, to modern, sacred, and secular music, madrigals part-songs, and motets and anthems.

At the Holmfirth concert, they will sing pieces by Elgar, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Gibbons and Byrd.

The music begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7.00, including refreshments from Christine Haigh on 01484 684463 or from Holmfirth Tourist Information.

Vocal Expressions Ladies’ choir rehearse every Thursday evening from 7.30pm at Holmbridge Village Hall and would welcome anyone interested in joining them.
