HONLEY Male Voice Choir will round off its highly successful 75th anniversary year with its first ever visit to Kirkheaton Parish Church.

The church will be the venue for a fund-raising concert next Saturday, December 17, which features local mezzo Diane Robinson.

The concert will also mark a first for Diane, who though well-known to West Yorkshire audiences, will be making her first appearance with the choir.

Diane will sing two spots, one in each half, accompanied by pianist Craig Ball.

While she makes her debut with the Honley men, it will be the last appearance for musical director Alan Jenkins and accompanist John Oldfield who made a well-appreciated temporary return to the choir this year following their departure three years ago.

The choir’s hugely successful concert with opera star Lesley Garrett in September at the Town Hall, raised more than £3,200 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Brackenhall. Proceeds from next week’s concert will go to the same cause.

The concert, which starts at 7pm, has been organised by one of the hospice’s local support group and is being compered by Honley’s chairman Norman Mellor. Norman, who performs as part of a trio with Diane and Richard Cook called Reflections, is also singing at the concert along with three other choir soloists, Brian Winterbottom, Danny Bullett and Raymond Steel.

Tickets are £7.50, including refreshments, on the door.
